We took a group of 36 youth and leaders and met up with about 150 others from 3 different youth groups across Florida and North Carolina to do work in the city of Savannah, Georgia for the week. We stayed at a local church and were serving mostly singular families throughout Savannah that the city connected us to. We did a majority of construction projects; working on things like roofing, building fences, painting, and re-flooring. We also ran a VBS in the area and had students working at an organization that runs a soup kitchen and clothes pantry. In total, we had 15 crews and projects that we completed.
A highlight of the trip was getting to hear stories of students connecting with the individuals and families they were serving. My group was working on a roof for a single, older lady. This roof was a huge blessing to her and she made us lunch one day where we got to sit and talk with her, hear some of her story, and pray with her. Off the worksite, it was great to see the dynamics of our students, working together and building each other up. Coming back, we are continuing to pray for the church where we were staying, that their ministry would continue to grow and impact their city. We also want to continue praying for the families we were serving that the church would be able to continue relationships with them and that they would continue to feel God’s love.
