On Sunday, you will be able to see into the Connector from the lobby by the kitchen! They have taken down the temporary wall that has been there for several months because they are installing the ceiling grid from the first part of the connector back into the lobby area. This will look quite a bit different by Sunday than it has. Feel free to – carefully – go all the way to the new fire doors and take a peek down toward the chapel through the windows in the temporary doors.
This week, a critical piece of the last stretch of work happened – our transformer and meter were installed by Duke Energy. This has been something we have been waiting for since some key elements of the project can only take place once there is climate control in the building, i.e., the AC has to be on. Still to come on this electrical front is Duke Energy connecting the transformer to the power lines – and that may be delayed somewhat because of Hurricane Michael and power outages in the state that may be caused by that storm.
Other major work done includes the stone wall in the chapel. It looks just fantastic – someone said, “That is retreat-center worthy!” Carpet has been installed in the office area, and so have the built-in bookcases salvaged from the old offices.
In the systems part of the project, the ceiling grid is continuing to have light fixtures and HVAC grids installed, emergency exit lights, and other things – you never think about how much is supported in the ceiling until you watch the pieces be placed one at a time.
Please pray for minimal impact on our project due to the hurricane! And, continue to pray for the safety of everyone who works on the project, as well as the wisdom and decisions of the project team as we come down to the last weeks.
