Pastor Jay has asked me to take the reins of “Four What It’s Worth” while he rests this January. I’m not sure what will appear in this column in the coming weeks – I’m still discerning what will be most helpful – but I want to use this entry to expand on the first application point from my New Year’s Day sermon: “seeing God’s glory effects transformation.”

This is the last installment of Four What It’s Worth for 2022, and with it comes a bookend to the number four. There are four Sundays coming in January that I want to draw your attention to. There are five total Sundays, but four works better with our shema.

God has placed the theme of waiting on my heart this Advent, I think because it is actually a theme of Advent and also because of our situation – a very 1 Peter like situation. And so, along with waiting, my attention has been drawn to this brief letter.

The opposition to unity is very subtle (small foxes), and it is here where the real challenges of “dwelling in unity” are. It comes from within. Our opinions about classes, services, and ministries often lead us to grumble, gossip, and, in many cases, divide.

Next week is Thanksgiving. I hope you are able to find some respite, especially in this particularly heavy season for many of us. And my prayer is that true Christ-centered thanksgiving is a reality in your hearts and homes.
