Robert Smith III

Elder ('24)

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY AND WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING.

I met my wife, Michelle, while attending the University Of Virginia. We have been married for thirty-five years. We have two adult children, one grandchild and another due in August.

We moved to Chapel Hill in 2012 when I took a position at UNC School of Medicine in the Department of Neurology. In addition to my work at UNC-SOM I am on the faculty at the University Of Mount Olive, Tillman School Of Business.

HOW DID YOU BECOME A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST?

I grew up in a Christian home with excellent Christian role models. I cannot recall a time when my faith was not integral to my life. I attended a Baptist church that was a short walk from my home. It was there that I committed my life to Christ and was baptized at the age of twelve.

HOW DO YOU HOPE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE MISSION OF CHBC?

My prayer is that God puts into use for His Kingdom the sum total of my experiences and life lessons in such a manner that I honor him as I serve in the role of an Elder. I am a servant leader and derive great joy in the service/development of others. I want my works to be about the Father as I obey the command to love my sisters and brothers as Christ loves me.
